Description

Junkers Ju 52

The Junkers Ju 52/3m (nicknamed Tante Ju (“Aunt Ju”) and Iron Annie) is a German trimotor transport aircraft manufactured from 1931 to 1952. Initially designed with a single engine but subsequently produced as a trimotor it saw both civilian and military service during the 1930s and 1940s. In a civilian role, it flew with over twelve air carriers including Swissair and Deutsche Luft Hansa as an airliner and freight hauler. In a military role, it flew with the Luftwaffe as a troop and cargo transport and briefly as a medium bomber. The Ju 52 continued in postwar service with military and civilian air fleets well into the 1980s.

This is a big piece, even compared to medium bombers on your table. I don’t think the head-on photo Pico uses does it justice; it looks better from the top.

great detail and service from PICO is incredibly good

The one-piece casting, without undercarriage that needs to be glued, makes this very easy to use. It also avoids the unsightly holes in the wings that some other 1/600 Ju-52s have to accommodated the plugs of the undercarriage inside and through the wings. The fuselage is very smooth also, in comparison to other 1/600 Ju-52s, which looks very nice and paints up well. As ever, a bit smaller than other makers’ Ju-52s.

Very nice piece and excellent service. I’ll be back for more.

Series 3 is a one piece aircraft. I got the older two piece aircraft and compared them. Both same size, the flash on the series 3 is a bit hard to clean up. Since the flash is on the wings. The two piece JU-52 was easier to clean up.
